PREMIER COMBINES, was set up as an organisation to manufacture electronic products, with modest beginnings in Chennai, (at that time called Madras) in 1982, with just 2 employees. Initially, under the Material, Technology, and Brand name (MTB) programme of the Govt. of India for small scale industries, Premier Combines manufactured Black & White and Colour televisions.
Since, too many players were to be expected in this segment, it then changed its focus to the design and manufacture of energy saving products, especially in the field of lighting. These items included electronic ballasts for, LED Street Light Fixtures, LED Tube Lights, Fluorescent Tube lights, Compact Fluorescent lamps, HPMV, HPSV and Metal Halide lamps, electronic transformers for Halogen Lamps, electronic drivers for Neon lamps/lights, where power saving and high reliability, were of utmost importance.
Since, then the unit has been engaged in the manufacture of high frequency electronic ballasts under the brand name Kwiklite, and is one of the leading players in India for all types of electronic control gear for lighting. Somewhere along the way the development of electronic ballasts for railway coaches was initiated, and today rolling stock application using these electronic ballasts, is quite substantial in the Indian Railways. Kwiklite has obtained the RDSO approval for supply of these electronic ballasts in all the various Railways.

Premier Combines has now paved the way, for users in India, to seriously consider energy saving electronic control gear for all types of lighting. It is now a brand name to reckon with, and has slowly but surely become a leading manufacturer in this field. It now needs to consolidate its market share and further expand its exports division.
The organization with a view to increasing its marketing base, has decided to streamline its design and manufacturing processes, by installing work practices of excellence, in all its areas. As a first step in this direction of uniformity and quality policy, the production unit had been following the ISO 9001(2000) plan which is now superseded by the ISO 9001(2008) certification. Yearly assessment of quality practices set by ISO requirements is carried out for better and focused objective realization.
Recently Kwiklite has forayed into LED lighting and highly reliable constant current/constant voltage drivers, dimmers, controllers for these products have been designed and are already being used in various projects in and around Chennai. These LEDs have a life of 100,000 burning hours and have constant illumination over a wide range of voltage. Lending itself to light fixtures of different shapes because of its extremely small size, LEDs are bound to replace most other forms of lighting including CFLs. Our capacity to produce high values project requirements is made possible by automatic processing machinery and our financial status is fair high with the support Axis and IOB banks. Wireless chargers with LED emergency lights are another boon to the power starved darkness of our cities today, with long working hours as an added feature.
The approval of our electronic control gear by Delhi Metro Rail has also been a feather in our cap and today we are sole suppliers to Delhi Metro, Kolkata Metro, SriLankan Metro and Bangalore Metro. Projects like Taj Club House, Taj Coromandel, ITC Hotels, British High Commission, etc. are showcases of our strengths in LED control and fixtures.
Besides, recently we have collaborated with M/s Wheels India for production of various electronic control systems using SMD technology using pick and place machines with reflow soldering techniques, to be in line with the latest trends of production processes. Revamping and modernization of the production facility has been carried out and we are proud of state of the art technology in manufacturing and assembly of automobile and lighting electronic control gear using SMDs. The introduction of LED tube lights saving almost 60% power with absolutely no maintenance and high reliability is another focus area for us.
We have now been approved for our HID electronic control gear for streetlights upto 400W by Neyveli Lignite Corporation as well as Singareni Collieries, two of the biggest coal mining organisations in India. We are also a monopoly for 400W metal halide lamp control gear, which are being used in lighthouses all long the shores of India like Vishakapatnam, Gujarat, Cochin, Chennai, etc. and the adjoining islands of Andaman, Nicobar, Laccadive, Minicoy,etc..
We had also been asked to develop electro spinning apparatus for production of nanofibres for stem cell culture, by the Research and Development department of SRMC which we have carried out and repeat orders from different areas for this item are being executed successfully. Another area that our Research and development wing is entering, is the manufacture of non-invasive haemoglobin monitors for anaemic pregnant ladies. Although we have completed almost 75% of the work the remainder is yet to be tied down.
Automatic smart card operated water meters are also being developed for a South African group and we are sure that the future holds a lot of potential for our efforts. Although we are a small team, our efforts have been lauded time and again and the progress made in the various fileds are commendable.
